Baaaaad Goats!
Yes, we have goats too. We purchased these from a man over in Morgantown where we also got our pigs. He brought them out to us on weekend in March. We have a billy & 3 nannies. It was pretty funny getting them into their pen. One got loose & Cristian (my oldest son) & James ( a friend from down the road) chased it around the outside of the pen. They were both diving trying to get ahold of her leg or some part of her, which I found rather amusing.
The reason for goats, milk. Which I have never considered before, being raised on cows milk. Goats milk has its advanatges though. I am lactose intolerant & goats milk is more easily digested than cows milk, a plus for me. It doesn’t need to be homogenized, so it retains more vitamins than cows milk, another plus. Although I have yet to try any, it is said to taste similar to cows milk, but a bit sweeter.
Another plus, free milk! Well basically. All we have to pay for is the feed for the goats. And my brats can drink some milk, let me tell you! Sometimes we go through 2-3 gallons a day! With the cost of things these days, it is easier & cheaper to raise your own. Not to mention all the growth hormones and whatnot store bought food has in it, it is just healthier & more practical to grow it yourself!
