Hi Ainsworth, our current setup has 2 rows of nesting boxes, 16 boxes in total, for 100+ chickens laying, and we do see a busted egg from time to time, but not that often really. The roll, when using the dimensions (or a ratiod equiv.) in my plans, the eggs do not develop a fast roll, so the breakage is minimal. We have had this system in place for years now and have not changed it much at all since inception.

Stumbled on your plans when searching to discourage egg eating in our flock. This looks interesting and I hope we can retrofit our current coup to incorporate this. I do have a question. What happens if multiple hens lay in the same box, will the eggs crash into each other and break when rolling to the back?

This plan makes 8 nests per unit. It can always be made longer or doubled up to suit your needs.

Hi Murph, you are very welcome. It has worked extremely well for us and we have a large brood of laying hens now.

Very nice. I'm designing a small coop (6x8 feet)on CAD and I think I'm going to incorporate your idea into the finished product.
Thank you!!

Well, I wasn't going to leave a comment, but you asked. I don't need the information; I just was compelled to read it. I do like eggs. ;) But I think the idea is fairly ingenious.
