Brand New Baking Station & Blindness
Well, the day finally arrived that Jaime has been asking for, I got her new baking station built to her specifications, and installed in the bare area in the kitchen for her. I think it looks pretty darn good myself, however Jaime can’t really see it yet herself.
I took her in to see an eye doctor this morning first thing, after her eyes being irritated a good part of the day yesterday, and the first words out of her mouth this morning were “Will, I can’t see, I’m blind…“.
Seems she somehow got an infection which caused cornea ulceration in her right eye. The doc says we caught it fast, and gave her some antibiotic eye drops to put in her eye every 15 minutes all day, and every 30 minutes all night tonight. I am already resigned to being the one to stay awake all night and just wake her when it is time to use her drops again. Poor girls been thru enough as it is without having to stay awake the full night to boot.
We have an appointment back there with a surgeon in the morning and if it hasn’t got better by then, he will be taking a culture and having it sent out to determine what the exact cause is so they can better treat it. This is something that could end up in her losing her sight in that eye, so we are paying heed to every word the docs say.
While looking up as much information as I could find on this particular ailment, I ran across the WikiPedia article on it, which states It is a common condition in humans particularly in the tropics and the agrarian societies. You can read the article by following the link. (article link)
Update (May 14): Jaime went to see the surgeon today, the doctor flat out said this was the worst corneal infection he had seen in 20 years.
They took a culture, prescribed 2 new drugs which had to be mixed in such a way the closest place to get it was in Indiana, one and a half hours drive away, so we spent the rest of the day visiting a pharmacy and compounding specialist in New Albany, IN.
Jaime has another appt. with a specialist tomorrow morning, also in New Albany, IN. We were told if this did not work, she will likely lose all vision in that eye. Will keep you all updated.
Update (May 15): Jaime saw the cornea specialist today. Good news, the new drugs he has her dropping in her eye is working. The white film that completely covered her cornea is just about gone now, and he says there are new cells being generated in the cornea already. She should get back at least partial vision in that eye. She sees him again tuesday for another exam. The swelling around her eyes has gone down enough now that she can finally see out of the left eye normally.
Anyway, here are some pics of her new baking station, She was thrilled when she could finally see it and I hope you all like them as well.

God bless.

The baking station looks great, I really need to learn to be a better wood worker..
As for her not being able to see, She couldn’t see the difference between a CZ and a diamond so I’m not all that sure she saw that well to begin with..
Seriously though, I hope that she recovers quickly with a minimum of drama.. If not you’ll have to fit all them kids with bells..
hmmmm bells…..
You always do have a way of making me laugh Steve
Hey now, it wasn’t a CZ, it was a diamond. The ring was plated though remember!
Hi Willaim and Jaime!
The baking station looks great! I’m glad Jaime is getting her sight back. Sounds like the infection took off very quickly. Thanks for the link to the article. Will be praying for you all.
Blessings!
Kris
Hi Kris,
Yes, it did take off fast. One day she had some basic irritation, next morning she couldn’t see. The good thing is she’s getting better now, thank god. Thanks also on the baking station compliment.
William
Very pleased to hear the positive news!
Nice looking station. Can’t let my wife see this. She’s all gung ho to gut the kitchen.
What’s the first thing that’s gonna get baked using it? “Buns in the oven”?
Dave
Thanks Dave, yeh Jaimes feeling a lot better since the news from the specialist. The stations looking much better now that I have started getting some polyurethane on her, I’ll post some updated pics in a few days after doing the upper cabinet.
