New Beginnings 2009

By William Cross

Well, all the corn we planted this past week is sprouting quite well already, both the sweet corn and the feed corn. We should have a pretty decent harvest from all that this year. Jaimes garden is getting absolutely green, and I am sure she will be posting pictures as soon as her eye is not so light sensitive as it is now. The kids are all out of school now and raising a heck of a ruckas around here enjoying their vacation as all kids should.

My eldest daughter Audrey should be here today or tomorrow to stay for a month or so and visit, and my second eldest daughter Cristine is supposed to come down next week sometime we hope as well. It will be good to see them both again and have them for an extended stay.

Our neighbor is out rolling hay today and I need to get over there and see about leaving a round or 2 for us to use this coming winter just to make sure we have enough. The pigs have turned into regular hogs and are looking fine and lean of body. Another month and the kids will be in hog heaven at dinnertime for a while afterwards. All of them love fresh ham.

The new chicks and hens and turkeys are all doing well, and growing up fast. We transferred the first batch from the brooders to the small coop this week, and they are loving being able to scratch and pick clean fresh grass and bugs from the soil to eat.

Not much else to report today, as we are taking things slowly right now until Jaime recuperates fully from her ulcerated cornea problems. She is slowly getting more and more sight back in that eye thank the good lord.

Til next time, God bless and have a fantastic day.

  2. Corn’s up in the northland too! Hogs should be butchered cause they’re getting huge and I’m getting hungry! Today’s the girls last day of school and then life changes here for a few months and I totally enjoy it.

    Have a blessed summer!

  3. Jason: Best I can ascertain is a cross between yorkshire and berkshire breeds.

Tom: Great to hear your kids finally get their long awaited break as well. Yes, the next couple months will be busy ones for sure now for both of us :)
