Country Life

By Jaime Cross

The trees are starting to turn colors here & that means the weather is a bit cooler. It also means it is a lot easier to get out to the pasture to see the horses, since it isn’t so hot. That’s just what I did earlier to get new pictures of everyone. All the horses & the goat, Molly, who seems to think she is a horse.

The horses stay down the slope & under some trees during the day, which is a bit of a piece to walk. When it starts to get cooler, they come up to the middle pasture. I walked out there & as soon as Fancy, my Tennessee Walker, saw me she neighed a few times & trotted over. Her filly, Kismet, tagged along. Soon after all the others were making their way to me as well. Even the goat.

I started to take pictures. The minis are used to this kind of behavior, Fancy & Kismet are not. Fancy stopped & stared me down until I snapped a shot. She then shook her head & trotted closer. I got some pretty good shots. When comparing pictures taken of Fancy when she first got here & the ones I took tonight, you can tell the difference being here has made. She was a bit underweight when we got her & now she is huge. I was told if I set her loose out in the pasture, I would never be able to catch her again. That is not the case, though. When she sees me, she whinnies & comes over. She is a really sweet mare & she was never worked with before. Kismet will be the same way I think.

I think back to 3 years ago & think how we used to walk outside & find ourselves surrounded by houses & concrete. It is nice to walk outside here & see all the land & animals we have. Yep, the country life is definitely for me!
