Spring Chickens…Ducks, Geese & Rabbits

By Jaime Cross

Hey y’all! I am happy to say that things are going well here. The weather has been beautiful & the new animals are doing well. Today we moved the rabbits & the bigger geese & ducks to their outdoor pen. They were a little reluctant to leave their hutches at first, now they are having a ball. I love to watch how the ducks & geese flock together & run around. They are all enjoying the grass & bugs & sunshine.

When we went to Detweiler’s a week back to pick up the new geese, Dan had the tiniest little chicks I have ever seen. They were hard to see at first because they matched the color of the bedding spread on the floor of the pen they were in. I asked about them & was informed that they are Ameraucanas, or Easter Egg chickens (EE’s). They lay colored eggs, usually a taupe, green or blue color. We got our geese & went on our way. A couple of days later, Will went back to get some more of the Golden Comets they have & I asked him to get me some of the EE’s. He came back with 6 of them. Now, we raise chickens for meat & eggs BUT these are going to be my pets. I love the lil things!

I hope everyone is having nice weather & if you aren’t, I hope you get it soon!
