Fall Turkeys

By Jaime Cross

I know it is nowhere close to Thanksgiving, but we are having a turkey dinner today. It has been awhile since we had one & we figured, why not! Will, Cristian & the kids went out to the pen, picked one out, slaughtered it, scalded it,plucked & cleaned it. Now it’s in the oven & I am hungry already! A few people have told me how they would not be able to eat anything they have raised and/or killed. I was the same way 4 years ago, but now I wouldn’t have it any other way. The meat tastes so much better than anything store bought & we know what has gone into our birds/hogs. The taste difference is unbelievable. If you are ever in the area, drop in & I’ll make a believer out of you!

  1. You don’t have to convince me, Jaime. We raised our own food for years, and the crap they sell at the supermarket is about as tasty as sawdust, in comparison!

The taste of the eggs alone makes raising your own chickens worthwhile.

So what time do you serve breakfast in the mornin’? Let me know when you’ll be makin’ some red-eye gravy and homemade biscuits, and I’ll drop by! ;)
